How to Buy T-Shirts in Bulk at Wholesale Rates (Without Getting Burned)

Buying in bulk is where the savings are — and where the mistakes are expensive. One bad order isn't one bad t-shirt, it's fifty. Use this checklist before you place a large order with anyone.

Always order a sample first

No exceptions. A photo tells you nothing about fabric weight, stitching or how a tee survives three washes. A ₹250 sample can save you a ₹25,000 mistake.

Check these five things on the sample

1. GSM (fabric weight) — 180–200 GSM is the sweet spot for premium everyday tees. Anything under 160 will feel thin.
2. Combed cotton — smoother, stronger, less pilling than regular cotton.
3. Pre-shrunk — if it isn't, your customers' L becomes an M after one wash.
4. Stitching — check the shoulder and hem seams. Loose or single-stitched hems fail fast.
5. Colour fastness — wash it once. Cheap dyes bleed and fade.

Understand MOQ and pricing tiers

Questions to ask every supplier

• Is this ready stock or made-to-order? (Ready stock ships faster.)
• What's the per-piece rate at my quantity?
• Do you ship Pan India, and what's the dispatch time?
• What happens if pieces arrive defective?

Watch for these red flags

• Prices far below everyone else — the fabric is thinner than they admit.
• No sample available — they don't want you to check.
• Vague answers on GSM or fabric type.
